Wood Renovation About us       Contact Us

Renovating your wooden floor is a complex procedure that requires expert knowledge and top quality equipment.

Castle Flooring has invested in the latest up-to-date professional continuous belt sanding and edging machines, giving dust extraction figures of between 95% and 97%, thereby greatly reducing the amount of airborne dust and noise.

Under normal conditions, floors are sanded a minimum of three times using progressively smoother/finer belts. The first sanding process is performed with the most abrasive grade of belt to remove all the old varnish, paint or shellac from the floor surface. Each progressive sanding uses smoother/finer belts to sand out any marks, thus improving the floor surface.

The floor is then edged out again using progressively finer discs to remove any marks that remain and blend the edges in with the rest of the floor – each type of wood has its own particular characteristic and requires a slightly different procedure. Thus, if the floor being sanded is pine it is then prepped with spirit to remove any resin and generally degrease the floor. The floor is then primed and allowed to dry before applying the first coat of seal. When the first coat is dry, the floor is lightly sanded with a finishing machine to denib the floor, removing any small imperfections.

After the second coat of seal is applied and dry, the transformation from a tired floor to one to be proud of is complete.

The seal we use (Mega) is produced by a Swedish company Bona who have developed their products over 20 years. Mega is a waterborne polyurethane wooden floor lacquer that is ideal for areas subject to heavy water. Each coat of lacquer requires several hours to dry.
